In Memoriam Preacher's Kid

  no one knows anyone
this I believe
no one knows how
to give or receive
  Someone sees everything
if you believe
Someone gives everything
everyone needs
  two kinds of reasons
two lovers feel
the one that is said
the one that is real
  lyrical poems
float overhead
shine on the living
rain on the dead
  jack in the pulpits
poured out like sands
bloom in the deserts
of holocaust lands

like prophets forgiven
two parents dreamed
the weeds in their garden
were not what they seemed

  the blossoms were nourished
in turbulent soils
where parenting preachers
buried their spoils
  forgotten commitments
we cherish and keep
forgotten children
fallen asleep
